Welcome!
The idea for this website came up during a trip to South Africa, which was certainly among the most inspiring travels I have made so far. I'm a big fan of hiking and traveling, and so I decided that instead of just keeping my own travel diary, I'd rather share some of my experiences with others, including photographs and stories. If only some of what I'm publishing here might inspire some of you for your own travels, give some ideas for exciting destinations and help you with planning routes, or finding appropriate accommodation, I feel it was already worth the effort.
Any comments are much appreciated!
About Myself
I'm a 49-year old German living in Tokyo, Japan. I came to Japan for studies in 1999, and after graduating from university I took a position with the Japan Exchange and Teaching programme (JET) at the Sapporo City Hall in Hokkaido, where I also met my future wife. After my contract ended, we decided to move to Tokyo where I found a job with my current employer. We stayed in Tokyo for five years before an opportunity came along to relocate to Germany. Another five years later we left Europe and yet again moved back to Tokyo – this time for good.
Ever since my studies I maintained a profound interest in all things geographic, whether in the form of traveling or hiking, or from a more scientific point of view. I enjoy traveling and hiking in the Japanese countryside, but I equally enjoy city walks in and around Tokyo to learn about its geography and history. This variety of interests is reflected throughout my website, and I hope you will find one or the other article here that may also spark your interest. While the majority of articles focuses on Japan, this site is not limited to Japan per se.
About my photos
All photos published on this website are taken by myself - although I'm anything but a professional photographer, I hope that you enjoy them nevertheless, and that you treat them with the same respect as you would want yours to be treated.
